Description
"Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage" continues the story of the Lagoon Company, a group of mercenaries operating in the criminal underworld of Southeast Asia. The series picks up where the first season left off, delving deeper into the chaotic and morally ambiguous world of Roanapur, a lawless city teeming with criminals, mercenaries, and corrupt officials. The Lagoon Company, consisting of Dutch, the pragmatic leader; Revy, the skilled and volatile gunfighter; Benny, the tech-savvy hacker; and Rock, the former salaryman turned reluctant operative, takes on dangerous missions that often blur the lines between right and wrong.
The narrative explores several arcs, each highlighting the complexities of the characters and their interactions with the criminal factions in Roanapur. One major arc involves the arrival of Roberta, a former FARC guerrilla and fiercely loyal maid, who goes on a rampage to rescue her employer's son, Garcia Lovelace, after he is kidnapped. This storyline showcases Roberta's combat prowess and her unwavering dedication, while also examining the themes of loyalty and vengeance. The Lagoon Company becomes entangled in this conflict, navigating alliances with local crime syndicates like the Russian mafia, the Chinese Triad, and the Colombian cartel.
Another significant arc focuses on Rock's internal struggle as he grapples with his moral compass in the face of Roanapur's brutal reality. His interactions with Revy, who embodies the harsh pragmatism of their world, highlight the tension between idealism and survival. The series also introduces new characters, such as Balalaika, the ruthless leader of the Russian mercenary group Hotel Moscow, and Feng Yifei, a Chinese assassin with a personal vendetta. These characters add layers to the narrative, further exploring the power dynamics and alliances within Roanapur.
Throughout "The Second Barrage," the series maintains a fast-paced, action-driven narrative, punctuated by intense gunfights, strategic maneuvering, and moments of dark humor. The interplay between the characters, particularly Rock and Revy, remains a central focus, as their contrasting perspectives on morality and survival continue to evolve. The series does not shy away from depicting the harsh realities of its setting, presenting a world where violence and betrayal are commonplace, and survival often comes at a cost.

1The Vampire Twins Comen
Rain falls on the Southeast Asian city of Roanapur. Balalaika, the leader of Hotel Moscow, convenes an emergency meeting with the heads of the city's other major crime syndicates: the Triad, the Italian mafia, and the Colombian cartel. Balalaika demands answers after a string of nighttime murders claims the lives of her soldiers and other gangsters across the city. The crime bosses realize a single, unknown party is systematically attacking all their organizations. A police officer provides a lead: two small, pale children sighted at multiple crime scenes. Balalaika orders her men to find the children alive so she can question them personally. Elsewhere in Roanapur, two young twins dressed in gothic clothing drag a dead man from a car. The girl, Gretel, carries an oversized axe while her brother, Hansel, wields a heavy machine gun. They discuss their kills with casual, cheerful indifference, referring to the victims as “macaroni that boiled over.” The twins laugh and skip through the rain-soaked streets, leaving the corpse behind. Their playful demeanor sharply contrasts with the brutal efficiency of their murders. The episode establishes the twins as a new, unpredictable threat that disrupts the fragile criminal balance Balalaika and the other bosses worked to maintain. Rock watches from a distance as the city’s underworld mobilizes to hunt the two children, setting the stage for a violent confrontation that will test the mercenaries of the Black Lagoon.
3Swan Song at Dawn
Eda and Revy engage the twins in a gunfight until the Visotoniki arrive, forcing Hansel and Gretel to separate. Revy returns to the Black Lagoon while Gretel corners Eda and takes her hostage. Gretel demands that Eda find a getaway boat for herself and her brother. Meanwhile, the Visotoniki pursue Hansel throughout an entire night but suffer no casualties. Hansel eventually wanders into a park and confronts Balalaika. Balalaika’s snipers shoot Hansel from a distance, killing the boy. Gretel hires the Lagoon Company to transport her out of Roanapur. During the boat ride, Rock listens to Gretel recount her past under Ceaușescu’s regime, where orphaned children were sold to black marketeers and beaten to death. Sickened by her story, Rock vents his anger to Benny. Benny responds that Rock cannot stop every injustice in the world. When the Black Lagoon reaches the getaway point, a hired gun from Hotel Moscow shoots and kills Gretel. Rock observes that Gretel died peacefully while staring at the sky. With both twins dead, Rock carries the weight of her final moments as the Lagoon Company returns to its regular operations.
4Greenback Jane
A money counterfeiter named Jane flees her employers in the Florida mafia after a missed deadline leads to her colleague's death. She seeks refuge at the Church of Violence in Roanapur, where Eda and Revy drink at the bar. Eda refuses Jane entry, but Florida mafia members arrive and open fire into the church. Eda and Revy return fire, joined by the apprentice priest Rico and Yolanda, driving the attackers away. Inside the church, Jane demonstrates her counterfeiting skill by producing a near-perfect bill. Eda agrees to hide Jane at a motel while secretly planning to sell her location to the bounty hunters and steal the printing plates. The Florida mafia operative Russel gathers bounty hunters in Roanapur, including the assassin Shenhua and the mute Sawyer the Cleaner, who wields a chainsaw. The bounty hunters criticize Russel for his inexperience and outdated cowboy appearance. Rock, Eda, and Revy arrive at Jane's motel as the bounty hunters begin closing in on her location.
5The Roanapur Freakshow Circus
Eda's plan to secure the counterfeit plate forces Jane to flee her motel room. Jane spots Eda among her rescuers and agrees to any price for salvation. Eda and Revy drive the bounty hunters back with gunfire, then retreat toward the Lagoon Company dock. Dutch and Benny take the Black Lagoon on an unscheduled job, leaving the dock house empty. The group waits inside the building as Shenhua, Sawyer, and other hunters surround the structure. Bounty hunters set the dock house on fire, trapping Revy, Eda, Rock, and Jane inside. Rock leads Jane up to the roof while the flames spread below. Revy curses their bad luck and prepares to fight Shenhua directly. Dutch turns the boat around and races back to port at full speed. The episode ends with Revy setting a trap for Shenhua as the burning building closes in around them.
6Mr. Benny's Good Fortune
Revy acts as a decoy, allowing Eda to shoot and wound Shenhua. On the rooftop, Sawyer confronts Rock and Jane, but an explosion knocks away her electrolarynx, sending her into shock. Lotton the Wizard challenges Revy, who shoots him. The burning building collapses as Dutch and Benny return the Black Lagoon to port. Revy, Eda, Jane, and Rock leap onto the boat, followed by several bounty hunters. Dutch executes evasive maneuvers, throwing multiple hunters off the deck. Revy eliminates the remaining hunters except Russel, who reaches the engine room. Eda intercepts Russel there, and he recognizes her from Washington, D.C. Eda admits to being a CIA officer before killing him. In the computer room, Benny successfully hacks into Jane's counterfeiting files. Jane rewards Benny with a kiss. Back at the dock, Lotton the Wizard survives because his bulletproof vest stopped Revy's shot, and he offers to help the wounded Shenhua reach medical care. Russel's death and Eda's revealed CIA identity leave the group with new secrets, while Shenhua's fate now depends on Lotton's assistance.
7Calm Down - Two Men
After the submarine incident,Rock and Revy carry out Dutch's errands in strained silence. Revy refuses to speak to Rock when they are alone, though she resumes her usual manner with others. Rock cannot find a way to break through her hostility. Dutch sends the pair to the Church of Violence to pick up weapons. Rock negotiates with Sister Yolanda, using his wits to secure the delivery despite the nun's sharp bargaining. The successful transaction does nothing to ease the tension between him and Revy. They sit down for a meal, and Rock declares he will not apologize anymore. Revy immediately draws her pistol and points it at him across the table. Rock does not back down. He takes out a cigarette and leans forward to light it from the tip of Revy's already burning cigarette. Revy allows the gesture without lowering her weapon. The two remain locked in a silent standoff, their personal conflict unresolved and ready to escalate.
8The Succession
Bando organizes a second meeting with Balalaika following her brutal attacks on the Kosa Council. Balalaika refuses to negotiate and declares her intent to pursue destruction and subjugation without compromise. Chaka,a reckless member of the Washimine Group, beats Rock after the meeting ends. Revy discovers the attack and promises Rock she will kill Chaka. Rock requests Benny to send Revy's signature Cutlass pistols to Roanapur. Rock meets Yukio again, and the two discuss whether individuals can choose their own paths in life. Yukio quotes Jean-Paul Sartre's philosophy about humans throwing themselves into life like dice. Before leaving, Yukio reveals her surname as Washimine, making Rock realize she belongs to the Washimine Group. Bando and Ginji discuss the group's leadership crisis, concluding that only a direct descendant of the previous boss can claim the position. Bando attempts to assassinate Balalaika the following day but fails, and Balalaika kills him. After learning of Bando's death, Yukio agrees to become the new leader of the Washimine Group as the granddaughter of the previous leader. Ginji swears his absolute loyalty to her, pledging to protect her with seven lives. With Yukio now heading the Washimine Group and Ginji as her guardian, the stage is set for a direct confrontation with Balalaika and Hotel Moscow.
9Two Father's Little Soldier Girls
Balalaika recalls her past in the Soviet Union. She intended to enter the Olympic rifle shooting event to restore her father's reputation. The war in Afghanistan instead places her on the front lines. After the Soviet Union collapses, she leads her former soldiers into the Russian mafia. In present-day Japan, Yukio Washimine stays late at school with her friend Maki. Yakuza henchmen arrive and pick up Yukio despite Maki's pleas. Yukio orders a counterattack against Hotel Moscow. Ginji carries out the attack by beheading a Russian mafia branch leader named Laptev. Revy retrieves her custom pistols from a smuggler. Rock convinces Revy to accompany him to Yukio's house. Chaka and his gang arrive at the house first and kidnap Yukio after killing her bodyguard Yoshida. Ginji returns to the house and finds Rock there. Rock persuades Ginji to let Revy help rescue Yukio. Rock explains that he cannot accept Yukio throwing away a normal life for the criminal underworld. Rock, Revy, and Ginji prepare to storm the bowling alley where Chaka holds Yukio hostage.
