Description
Yoshida, a 26-year-old salaryman, encounters a high school girl named Sayu Ogiwara one night after being rejected by his boss, Airi Gotou, whom he has feelings for. Sayu, who has run away from her home in Hokkaido, offers Yoshi a sexual favor in exchange for a place to stay. Yoshi declines her offer but allows her to stay at his apartment temporarily, setting boundaries to ensure her safety and well-being. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that Sayu has been on the run for months, relying on the kindness of strangers, often at great personal cost. Her past is gradually revealed, exposing the emotional and psychological trauma she endured, including a strained relationship with her family and the loss of her brother.
Yoshida’s decision to shelter Sayu creates a complex dynamic between the two. While he initially views her as a responsibility, their relationship evolves into one of mutual support and understanding. Yoshi’s colleagues and friends, including his coworker Mishima and his boss Gotou, become aware of Sayu’s presence, leading to various reactions and complications. Mishima, who harbors feelings for Yoshi, becomes jealous and suspicious of Sayu, while Gotou remains a figure of unrequited affection for Yoshi, adding layers of tension to the narrative.
Sayu’s journey is central to the story, as she grapples with her past and seeks to rebuild her life. Her interactions with Yoshi and others in his social circle help her confront her trauma and begin the process of healing. The series explores themes of redemption, familial bonds, and the impact of kindness, as Sayu gradually opens up about her experiences and the reasons behind her decision to leave home. Meanwhile, Yoshi’s own struggles with unrequited love and his sense of responsibility toward Sayu highlight his growth as a character.
The narrative balances moments of emotional depth with lighter, slice-of-life elements, creating a nuanced portrayal of the characters’ lives. The series does not shy away from addressing difficult topics, such as exploitation, loss, and the consequences of running away from one’s problems. However, it also emphasizes the importance of human connection and the potential for positive change, even in the face of adversity. Through its exploration of the characters’ relationships and personal journeys, the series presents a thoughtful and engaging story that resonates with themes of resilience and hope.
