Akio Suyama is a veteran Japanese voice actor born on July 8, 1968, in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent agency Sigma Seven and has been active in the industry since his debut in 1990. His interest in voice acting was sparked during high school after an encounter with fellow voice actor Chisa Yokoyama at a voice acting school event, which inspired him to pursue it professionally. He subsequently trained at the Katsuta Voice Actor Academy and a training school before joining Sigma Seven.

Suyama is known for a distinctive, slightly husky voice that often leads to him being cast in roles that are comedic, quirky, or speak in his native Kansai dialect. While he has played a wide array of characters, a significant portion of his career has been dedicated to the Sakura Wars franchise, where he voices the protagonist, Ichiro Ogami. His commitment to this role, including participating in stage musicals for many years, shaped his career path, making lead roles in other series less frequent but establishing him as a beloved figure in that franchise.

Beyond his iconic role, Suyama has built an extensive filmography across anime, video games, and tokusatsu.
