Description
In a post-apocalyptic world, the sky has turned into a mirror-like barrier following a catastrophic event known as the "Twin X" incident, which destroyed much of civilization. The story centers on two siblings, Tatsuya and Kiyoko Madoka, who are orphaned after their mother, a scientist involved in the Twin X project, commits suicide. The siblings are taken in by a mysterious organization called Orga, which operates from a secluded mansion. Orga is led by a group of enigmatic individuals who possess supernatural abilities, including telekinesis and mind control, granted by the Twin X event. These individuals, known as the "Children of Gilgamesh," are both revered and feared for their powers.
Tatsuya and Kiyoko become entangled in the conflict between Orga and a rival faction called the Countess, which seeks to exploit the Children of Gilgamesh for their own purposes. The Countess, a powerful and manipulative figure, aims to use the Children to reshape the world according to her vision. As the siblings navigate this dangerous landscape, they uncover dark secrets about their mother’s involvement in the Twin X project and the true nature of the Children of Gilgamesh. Tatsuya, in particular, struggles with his growing connection to the Children and the moral dilemmas posed by their powers.
The narrative explores themes of survival, power, and the consequences of scientific experimentation. Key characters include Tatsuya, who evolves from a protective older brother to a conflicted figure grappling with his role in the conflict; Kiyoko, whose innocence and vulnerability contrast with the harsh realities of their world; and the enigmatic leaders of Orga, such as the stoic Enkidu and the charismatic Mardina. The Countess serves as a formidable antagonist, embodying the dangers of unchecked ambition and manipulation.
The series builds toward a climactic confrontation between Orga and the Countess, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. The resolution of the story ties together the mysteries of the Twin X incident, the origins of the Children of Gilgamesh, and the personal journeys of Tatsuya and Kiyoko. The narrative concludes with a reflection on the cost of power and the possibility of redemption in a fractured world.

1The Preludes
Ten years after the Twin X explosion at the Heaven's Gate research facility in the Middle East,a mirror-like layer called the Sheltering Sky blocks out normal sunlight. The electromagnetic anomaly from the blast rendered all computers and wireless communications useless, collapsing information civilization. Tatsuya and Kiyoko Madoka, children of the scientist responsible for Twin X, flee from their deceased mother's creditors. They take shelter from the rain in an abandoned mansion. Inside, three strange boys approach them. One of the boys asks whether Tatsuya and Kiyoko will become their comrades to fight demons spreading across the earth. Before they can answer, three mysterious adolescents arrive outside the mansion. The two groups engage in combat. During the fight, the three boys transform into winged creatures. Tatsuya and Kiyoko lose consciousness. When they wake, the three adolescents transport them by car to a wealthy woman, the Countess of Werdenberg. The Countess invites them to dinner and reveals she knows they are Enkidu's children. The transformed boys, joined by a girl, plan to recover Tatsuya and Kiyoko that night.

Tatsuya and Kiyoko initially hesitate but eventually accept the invitation. Elsewhere, the three transformed boys return to human form and meet a girl who joins their group. 4Hotel Providence
The Countess of Werdenberg pays off Tatsuya and Kiyoko Madoka's outstanding debts. She then formally integrates the two siblings into the ORGA organization. Tatsuya and Kiyoko move into the Hotel Providence, which serves as the ORGA's operational base. They begin living alongside the other ORGA members, Isamu, Fuko, and Toru. The siblings learn that the Countess is an immensely wealthy widow. They question why she relies on a small group of children to fight the supernatural beings known as Gilgamesh. The ORGA captures a wing torn from one of the Gilgamesh creatures. The Countess and her team analyze the severed wing and discover the Gilgamesh are composed of antimatter. This antimatter composition grants the Gilgamesh their immense destructive power. During the following night, the severed wing spontaneously reanimates on its own. The wing moves to attack Tatsuya. Tatsuya's latent Dynamis power awakens in response to the immediate threat. He uses his newly manifested ability to completely disintegrate the attacking wing. The activation of Tatsuya's Dynamis within the Hotel Providence creates a new and unpredictable variable for both the Countess and his sister Kiyoko.

6The Sky of Caged Birds
Kiyoko and Tatsuya remain inside the sealed research facility. The staff monitors their psychic abilities through daily tests. Kiyoko experiences recurring dreams of a vast, empty sky. She asks a guard about the outside world, but he refuses to answer. Tatsuya grows restless and proposes escaping through a ventilation shaft. Kiyoko hesitates, fearing the consequences of leaving. A sudden power failure disrupts the facility’s security systems. Tatsuya pulls Kiyoko into the shaft as alarms activate. They crawl through the dark ducts and emerge in a storage room. A locked metal door blocks their path to the exterior. Kiyoko concentrates and bends the lock’s internal mechanism with her mind. They step outside into a narrow courtyard surrounded by high walls. The sky above them is gray and clouded, not the open blue from Kiyoko’s dreams. Facility guards surround them moments later. The lead scientist orders their return to the testing wing. Toru's plan succeeds. Gilgamesh scans the surroundings, senses an unknown presence, and vanishes instantly. Someone continues watching the scene through a scope. In Dr. Enuma's office, the Countess and the doctor converse. The doctor remarks that she saw many familiar faces that day. She states that years after Twin X, children with psychic abilities were born worldwide, and someone gathered them to fight Enkidu. 11Far from XX
Isamu,Fuko, Toru, and Tatsuya learn that the Countess of Werdenberg once belonged to Heaven's Gate, the research organization destroyed in the Twin X catastrophe. The revelation pushes the group to take direct action. They formulate a plan to infiltrate the Mitlight Corporation headquarters. Their goal is to uncover classified records about the XX phenomenon that triggered the sky's transformation. The team searches through numerous files inside the facility. Security systems detect the intrusion. Guard robots activate and attack the intruders. The group must fight off the mechanical pursuers while trying to escape with any useful data. The ambush confirms that Mitlight guards its secrets with lethal force. The attack also separates the group and forces them to abandon some of their findings. Tatsuya faces particular danger as the robots target him more aggressively, suggesting Mitlight knows his connection to the Gilgamesh. The episode ends with the group scattered inside the building and no clear exit path in sight.

Isamu teases Fuko about her feelings for Tatsuya, which visibly unsettles her. Isamu reads a book featuring the word "Orga" with multiple written interpretations including organization, organism, and organ. On a sightseeing boat floating along the park canal, Tatsuya and Kiyoko find themselves alone with no other passengers. They discuss the Madam's past presence at Heaven's Gate, the way the Madam looks at Tatsuya, and their deceased mother. Tatsuya begins speaking passionately about fighting Gilgamesh and helping to erase the Sheltering Sky. Kiyoko warns Tatsuya that such talk borders on arrogance.
