TV Special
Description
Son Goku, originally named Kakarot, arrived on Earth as a Saiyan infant shortly before his home world's annihilation. Adopted by Grandpa Son Gohan, a childhood head injury transformed his innate Saiyan aggression into a cheerful and pure-hearted nature. This foundation cemented his lifelong devotion to martial arts and Earth's protection.
Trained by mentors including Master Roshi, Kami, Mr. Popo, King Kai, and Whis, his Saiyan physiology enables reactive power growth—escalating strength through combat and recovery from near-fatal wounds. Transformations like Super Saiyan (unlocked by rage), Super Saiyan God (via ritual), and Ultra Instinct (mastering autonomous movement) amplify his combat prowess, granting energy projection, teleportation, and precognition.
His skills encompass flight, energy sensing, and techniques such as the Kamehameha and Spirit Bomb—the latter gathering energy from living beings to combat existential threats. Goku's adaptable martial arts style prioritizes instinct and improvisation. He routinely spares fallen enemies, trusting their capacity for redemption, a principle rooted in Eastern philosophies of compassion and enlightenment.
In the "Dream 9" crossover, Goku joins a food tournament race on an island hosted by the International Gourmet Organization, competing alongside allies like Gohan, Goten, and rival Vegeta. Selecting the mountain path with Luffy and Toriko, he briefly departs when King Kai summons him to deflect a cosmic danger before returning. He ties with Luffy and Toriko at the finish, igniting a three-way battle that accidentally demolishes the arena and awards Mr. Satan victory.
Later, as the energy-draining Deep Sea Glutton Akami attacks, Goku partners with Luffy and Toriko. While they distract the creature, he charges a Spirit Bomb using energy donated by spectators and fighters. Akami falls to their combined assault: Luffy's Elephant Gatling, Toriko's Twin Kugi Punch, and Goku's Kamehameha.
Goku is married to Chi-Chi and fathers Gohan and Goten, while his rivalry with Vegeta evolves into a steadfast alliance. His relentless quest for stronger foes positions him against universe-level threats. The "Dream 9" events occur after Kid Buu's defeat but before the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament, highlighting his peak capabilities.
Throughout all appearances, his core drive remains unchanged: exhilaration from challenging his limits against worthy adversaries while shielding innocent lives. This duality anchors his identity as Earth's guardian despite his extraterrestrial origins.
