Ryota Ohsaka
Description
Ryota Ohsaka is a Japanese voice actor born on August 2, 1986, in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. He is affiliated with the talent agency Early Wing. Standing 176 cm tall with blood type O, his nickname is Ryo-chin.
Ohsaka's journey to becoming a voice actor began with a spontaneous decision during his high school entrance ceremony. After graduating from a local technical high school, he moved to Tokyo with a like-minded friend to pursue this goal. He spent two years studying the basics of acting at Nippon Kogakuin Hachioji College. Following this, he attended a voice actor training school but initially failed the audition to join a talent agency. He was subsequently accepted through a supplemental examination by his current agency, Early Wing, and made his professional debut in 2010.
His first leading role came in 2012 as Yuki Sanada in the television anime series Tsuritama. This performance is often cited as his breakthrough, with the series' director noting his clear, adaptable voice suited the lead character. Ohsaka has stated that his inspiration to become a voice actor was actor Akira Ishida, particularly his role as Rid Herschel from Tales of Eternia.
Ohsaka has built a prolific career, voicing a wide range of characters across numerous popular anime series. Among his most notable roles are Sadao Maou, the Demon King, in The Devil Is a Part-Timer!; Eijun Sawamura in Ace of Diamond; Nagate Tanikaze in Knights of Sidonia; and Zen Wistaria in Snow White with the Red Hair. He is also well known for his performances as Keiji Akaashi in Haikyu!!, Marco Bodt in Attack on Titan, Nariyuki Yuiga in We Never Learn, and the demon Gyutaro in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc. His versatility extends across genres, encompassing roles in romantic comedies, science fiction, fantasy, and sports anime.
In recognition of his early career achievements, Ohsaka received the Best Male Newcomer Award at the 9th Seiyu Awards in 2015. He also co-hosts a popular radio program called Ohana (逢坂市立花江学園) with fellow voice actor Natsuki Hanae.
Ohsaka is married to fellow voice actress Manami Numakura. They announced their marriage in October 2019, and their first child, a son, was born in December 2021. His personal interests include playing video games, particularly the Super Robot Wars, Monster Hunter, Call of Duty, and Tales series, as well as bowling and karaoke, where he often sings anime and game songs.
