TV Special
Description
Trunks participates in the food tournament race segment of the special alongside fellow Dragon Ball characters Gohan, Goten, Android 18, and Master Roshi. Choosing the desert path, he travels with Brook and Roshi, observing their unsuccessful attempts to feign heat exhaustion while making inappropriate requests for recovery aid from Nami and Rin. During the race, Trunks successfully performs the Fusion technique with Goten, merging into Gotenks. Witnessing this, Chopper attempts fusion himself, but his only potential partner, Toriko's pet tiger Sunny, refuses, resulting in Chopper's failure.

As a Saiyan-human hybrid, Trunks possesses significant innate abilities. He achieved the Super Saiyan transformation by age eight through gravity training with his father, Vegeta. He is proficient in the Fusion technique, merging with Goten to become Gotenks. In this fused state, he can access the Super Saiyan 3 transformation and employs unique attacks such as the Galactic Donut and Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack.

Trunks' personality reflects a blend of his parents' traits. He exhibits Vegeta's battle-focused pride, competitiveness, and tactical thinking, often initiating adventures with Goten. Simultaneously, he inherits Bulma's technological aptitude, occasional crassness, and a spoiled demeanor stemming from his affluent upbringing. While he idolizes Vegeta and fears his discipline, he also demonstrates protectiveness toward his family. Displaying typical childhood interests, he develops a crush on Mai and shows jealousy regarding her interactions with his future counterpart. Generally, he is more arrogant and less cautious than his future self due to growing up in a peaceful era.

Trunks does not participate in the subsequent battle against the energy-draining creature Akami or the concluding banquet celebration. The special ends with Vegeta, Zoro, and Zebra still engaged in their separate fight elsewhere on the island, unrelated to Trunks' activities.
