Tomomichi Nishimura was a veteran Japanese voice actor and narrator born on June 2, 1946, in Chiba Prefecture. He was a graduate of Nihon University's Department of Film in the College of Art. Nishimura was affiliated with the talent agency ArtsVision for a significant portion of his career. He passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 79.
Nishimura's career in voice acting began in the 1970s and spanned five decades, during which he became renowned for his versatility and distinctive voice. He was known for his ability to portray a wide range of characters, from gentle, wise mentors to cunning villains, demonstrating significant range in his performances. Beyond anime, his work extended to narrating documentaries, video games, and dubbing foreign films and television series into Japanese. He was also involved in teaching the next generation of voice actors at institutions like the Japan Narration Acting Institute.
Among his most iconic and widely recognized roles are the narrator and Jorge Saotome in YuYu Hakusho, the gentle yet formidable Coach Mitsuyoshi Anzai in Slam Dunk, and the Third Tsuchikage Ōnoki in the Naruto franchise, including Naruto Shippūden and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. In the world of video games, he was the definitive voice of the powerful fighters Akuma and M. Bison in the Street Fighter series.
His extensive filmography also includes numerous other significant roles that showcase his range. In the mecha genre, he voiced Jamitov Hymem in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Shibaraku Tsurugibe in the Mashin Hero Wataru series.
