Description
"Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz Special Edition" is a condensed retelling of the three-episode OVA "Endless Waltz," set in the aftermath of the original "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" series. The story takes place in the year After Colony 196, one year after the events of the TV series, where the Earth Sphere Unified Nation has established peace following the collapse of the oppressive Romefeller Foundation and the defeat of the White Fang rebellion. The Gundam pilots, having fulfilled their mission, have sent their mobile suits into the sun to prevent further conflict.
The narrative begins with Relena Peacecraft, now Vice Foreign Minister, advocating for the complete disarmament of all mobile suits to ensure lasting peace. However, a rogue faction led by Mariemaia Khushrenada, the young granddaughter of the late Treize Khushrenada, emerges to challenge the fragile peace. Mariemaia’s forces, backed by remnants of the Romefeller Foundation, seize control of the Earth Sphere government and declare martial law, aiming to impose a new world order through force.
The Gundam pilots—Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Chang Wufei—are drawn back into the conflict as they learn of Mariemaia’s plans. Each pilot confronts their own motivations and struggles with the idea of using violence to achieve peace. Heero, in particular, grapples with his resolve to protect Relena and the world they fought to save. The pilots retrieve their Gundams, which had been hidden away, and prepare to confront Mariemaia’s forces.
The climax unfolds in space, where the Gundam pilots engage in a decisive battle against Mariemaia’s army. Relena, determined to end the cycle of violence, confronts Mariemaia directly, appealing to her humanity and urging her to abandon her destructive path. Meanwhile, the Gundam pilots face off against the powerful mobile suit Tallgeese III, piloted by Zechs Merquise (also known as Milliardo Peacecraft), who has returned to test the resolve of the pilots and the world’s commitment to peace.
The conflict concludes with Mariemaia’s surrender, and the Gundam pilots once again send their mobile suits into the sun, symbolizing their hope for a future free from war. The story emphasizes themes of redemption, the cost of peace, and the enduring struggle to break the cycle of violence. The Special Edition enhances the original OVA with additional scenes and refined animation, providing a more comprehensive and polished viewing experience.
