Shizuka Itou

Description
Shizuka Itou is a veteran Japanese voice actress and singer, born on December 5, 1980, in Tokyo, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent management firm Ken Production and has also released music under the Lantis record label. Itou graduated from the Tokyo Announcement Gakuin, a vocational school for broadcasting and voice acting. Her interest in a voice-acting career was sparked during high school while working part-time at a game center, which led her to admire the versatility of voice actors who performed across animation, singing, and radio. She was scouted by her future agency, Ken Production, after participating in a singing contest while still a student. Before her official debut, she was part of the third intake of Ken Production's voice actor training school, School Duo.

Itou made her formal debut as a voice actress in 2003, providing the voice for a minor character in the television anime series Texhnolyze. She quickly established herself in the industry, becoming known for her ability to portray a wide range of characters. She is particularly recognized for her proficiency in playing strong-willed, mature, and energetic women, often referred to in Japanese fan parlance as "onee-san" (big sister) types. This typecasting has led her to be frequently cast in roles such as student council presidents, earning her the informal nickname "president voice actress" for iconic roles like Hinagiku Katsura in Hayate the Combat Butler, Rei Hasekura in Maria-sama ga Miteru, and Hisa Takei in Saki. Her vocal range, however, extends beyond these archetypes to include characters with a wide variety of personalities and ages.

Throughout her extensive career, Itou has lent her voice to numerous memorable and leading characters in major anime franchises. Some of her most prominent and enduring roles include Kaori Kanzaki in A Certain Magical Index, Akeno Himejima in High School DxD, Koko Hekmatyar in Jormungand, Irina Jelavic in Assassination Classroom, and Yayoi Kunizuka in Psycho-Pass. She also voiced Lenalee Lee in D.Gray-man and took over the role of Sailor Venus / Minako Aino in the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal series and its subsequent films. Her talent has been recognized with a Seiyu Award for Best Actress in Supporting Roles at the 10th Seiyu Awards for her performances in Prison School and Sailor Moon Crystal.

In addition to her anime work, Itou is also active in the video game industry and has contributed to the Japanese dubs of foreign films and television series, such as voicing Ahsoka Tano in the Japanese version of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She has occasionally used pseudonyms, including Maya Takashi, for work in adult-oriented games.

Alongside her voice acting career, Itou has pursued a path as a singer. She released her first mini-album, Devotion, in 2010, followed by a second mini-album, Present, in 2011. Her first solo single, "Everybody Ready Now?," was released in December 2011, and she held her first solo live concert in Tokyo in March 2012. She has also been part of a musical unit with fellow voice actress Hitomi Nabatame, with whom she has a long-standing friendship and professional partnership.

Itou married in 2012 and later announced her divorce in April 2020. The extensive list of roles provided includes many of her more recent performances, demonstrating her continued activity and versatility. These include Kabura Honda in Call of the Night, Gil in The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace, Queen Elizabeth in Requiem of the Rose King and Parallel World Pharmacy, Tsukino in Tomodachi Game, Steiner in I'm Quitting Heroing, the Executioner in Girls' Frontline, Okitsune in Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san, Ellen Mira Mathers in the Date A Live series, Sophie in Fairy gone, Sayaka Koyanagi in Gleipnir, Nana in Plunderer, and Flora in Going Wild, among many others.
