Description
The 2006 live-action film Nana 2 continues the story of two young women named Nana who became roommates in Tokyo. The sequel focuses primarily on the romantic entanglements of Nana Komatsu, nicknamed Hachi, as her actions put her friendship with the punk rock vocalist Nana Osaki to the test.
The story picks up with the two Nanas sharing apartment 707. Nana Osaki’s band, the Black Stones, is on the verge of a major label debut with Gaia Records, while her personal life is complicated by her ongoing romance with Ren Honjo, the guitarist of the hugely popular rival band Trapnest. Nana Komatsu, struggling after losing her job, reconnects with Takumi Ichinose, Trapnest’s charismatic and arrogant bassist, who is also her celebrity crush. She falls into a secret relationship with him, much to the disapproval of Nana Osaki.
At the same time, Nobuo Terashima, the Black Stones' guitarist who harbors feelings for Hachi, confesses his love, and the two begin a relationship. This happiness is short-lived, as Hachi soon discovers she is pregnant with Takumi’s child. Faced with this reality, she chooses to marry Takumi, a decision that creates a deep rift between the two Nanas and forces Hachi to move out of their shared apartment.
As Hachi’s life moves towards the stability offered by Takumi, Nana Osaki’s career path grows more tumultuous. The publicity from her relationship with Ren threatens the Black Stones’ recording contract, but the band turns potential scandal into a successful marketing campaign with a bold guerrilla concert. Despite their diverging lives and the pain caused by Hachi’s choices, the two ultimately reconcile, reaffirming their bond at their old apartment.
