Description
"Blood+" is a 50-episode anime series that blends supernatural action, drama, and mystery. The story centers on Saya Otonashi, a seemingly ordinary high school girl living in Okinawa with her adoptive family. Saya suffers from amnesia and has no recollection of her life before two years ago. Her peaceful existence is disrupted when she encounters a Chiropteran, a monstrous creature that feeds on human blood. During the encounter, Saya’s latent abilities are awakened, revealing her true nature as a powerful warrior destined to combat the Chiropteran threat.

Saya learns that she is part of an ancient bloodline of warriors tasked with eradicating Chiropterans, which are created by a parasitic organism known as the "Queen’s Chevalier." Her blood possesses unique properties that can destroy these creatures. As Saya begins to recover fragments of her memory, she discovers her connection to a secret organization called the Red Shield, which has been protecting her and supporting her mission. The Red Shield is led by Haji, a mysterious and stoic cellist who serves as Saya’s loyal companion and protector. Haji’s unwavering dedication to Saya hints at a deeper, more complex bond between them.

The narrative unfolds across multiple international settings, including Japan, Vietnam, Russia, and the United States, as Saya and her allies pursue the Chiropterans and uncover the truth about their origins. Along the way, Saya encounters Diva, her twin sister and the source of the Chiropteran plague. Diva, who was created as a counterpart to Saya, represents a darker, more chaotic force. Their fates are intertwined, and their conflict drives much of the series’ tension and emotional weight.

As Saya battles Chiropterans and confronts her past, she grapples with themes of identity, sacrifice, and the consequences of her actions. Her relationships with her adoptive family, particularly her younger brother Riku, and her growing bond with Haji add emotional depth to the story. The series also explores the moral ambiguity of the Red Shield’s mission and the ethical dilemmas surrounding the creation and destruction of Chiropterans.

The plot is driven by a mix of episodic battles and a larger, overarching narrative that delves into the history of Saya and Diva, the origins of the Chiropterans, and the true purpose of the Red Shield. The series balances intense action sequences with moments of introspection and character development, creating a layered and engaging story. By the conclusion, Saya’s journey comes full circle as she confronts her destiny and the legacy of her bloodline, culminating in a resolution that ties together the series’ central themes and character arcs.

16Kogisu
Saya and Hagi arrive in a Vietnamese village searching for a doctor who treats chiropteran infections. The village elder directs them to an old woman living at the edge of the settlement. There they meet Kogisu,a young boy with pale skin and black veins on his neck. Kogisu lives with his grandmother, who hides his condition from the villagers. When local children throw stones at Kogisu, his eyes turn red and his arms elongate into claws. He kills two adults and injures three children before Saya intercepts him. Saya pins Kogisu to the ground with her sword but stops short of cutting his head. Kogisu's grandmother begs Saya to kill him, stating that he has killed before and will kill again. Hagi tells Saya that leaving Kogisu alive condemns the village to more deaths. Saya decapitates Kogisu while he reverts to a human form and thanks her. After the fight, Saya vomits and asks Hagi if she is a monster for killing a child. Hagi does not answer. They leave the village as chiropteran screams echo from the surrounding jungle. David's voice over radio orders the Red Shield to track a new Queen's emergence near Ho Chi Minh City.
17The Boy Who Returns
Saya,Hagi, Kai, and David arrive at a small Vietnamese village. A mother named Linh waits for her son Minh, who disappeared months ago after soldiers took him. Minh walks into the village with a blank expression but appears human. Saya detects a Chiropteran scent but cannot confirm it. Minh reunites with his mother and younger sister. That night, Minh transforms into a Chiropteran. He kills two villagers before his sister finds him. The sister screams, and Minh attacks her. Saya intercepts and drives him outside the house. Minh corners Linh inside their home. Linh calls his name, and Minh hesitates. Saya stabs him with her blood-changed sword. Minh reverts to human form and dies in his mother's arms. David explains that the Vietnamese military injected Chiropteran cells into captured villagers to create controllable soldiers. The group decides to locate and destroy the military research facility. Saya looks at her bloodstained hands and asks Hagi whether she will also lose her humanity one day. Hagi does not answer.
18Kiss
Saya and Hagi disembark from a train at a rural Russian station. A young boy,Nikolai, snatches Saya’s travel bag and dashes into a crumbling apartment building. Saya pursues him and finds a group of children hiding in a basement room. Nikolai explains that he steals to feed the children, including his younger sister Irina. Irina lies chained in a corner, her body partly transformed into a chiropteran. She retains human consciousness but suffers from bloodlust. Nikolai gives her animal blood, which temporarily calms her. Russian military personnel surround the building, having detected chiropteran activity. An officer orders the building to be burned with the children inside. Saya confronts the soldiers and refuses to leave the children. A chiropteran breaks into the basement and attacks. Saya activates her blood and extends her left arm into a blade. She kills the chiropteran but notices Irina beginning to lose control. Nikolai begs Saya to kill Irina before she fully transforms. Saya raises her blade, hesitates for several seconds, then strikes Irina’s neck. The children cry as Irina dissolves into particles. After the soldiers withdraw, Hagi approaches Saya and asks if she is tired. Saya turns to Hagi, rises on her toes, and presses her lips against his. Hagi remains frozen, his eyes wide. Saya pulls back, turns away, and walks toward the departing train without speaking. Hagi stands alone on the platform, touching his mouth. The episode closes with Saya sitting in an empty train car, her expression unreadable, while Hagi remains behind.
19Broken Heart
Three Schiffs—Moses,Karman, and Irene—attack a woman on the dark streets of Ekaterinburg and drink her blood. Saya, Hagi, Riku, and Elizabeth check into a hotel while waiting for David's return. Riku suddenly collapses at the dining table with a high fever. Elizabeth questions Saya about her true reasons for fighting Chiropterans and whether she follows her own wishes. Saya admits she fights to protect people who need her. Elizabeth reveals she killed the real Elizabeth and declares that Saya herself is a Chiropteran. Hagi attempts to strike Elizabeth, but she impales him with her hand. Saya activates her battle mode and charges with her bloodied sword, but Elizabeth breaks the blade with a sonic attack. Elizabeth announces that Saya has a younger sister named Diva, and that the Red Shield organization—including David and Hagi—always intended for Saya to kill her own sister. Elizabeth instructs Saya to go to the zoo for further answers and then departs after noticing three Schiffs watching from the woods. David returns to the hotel and finds Saya's broken sword alongside a note with "sorry" crossed out to read "liar". Inside an aircraft carrier, the door to Diva's container opens and a barefoot figure steps onto a blood-covered floor.
20Chocolate
Saya,Hagi, and Kai arrive in a Vietnamese town. A young girl named Liza sells chocolate from a small shop. Liza is a chiropteran but does not attack humans. Her mother, also a chiropteran, lives with her in hiding. Saya's blood hunger intensifies during the journey. Liza offers Saya a piece of chocolate. Saya discovers that eating chocolate temporarily suppresses her urge to drink blood. The Red Shield organization learns of the chiropterans in the town. Soldiers arrive to eliminate both Liza and her mother. The mother transforms into her full chiropteran form to protect Liza. She attacks the soldiers, forcing Saya to intervene. The mother realizes she cannot control her violent impulses. She asks Saya to protect Liza. The mother then steps into direct sunlight, causing her body to disintegrate. Liza, now alone, decides to leave the town. She gives Saya a box of chocolate before departing. Saya accepts the chocolate as a practical tool to manage her bloodlust. David informs the group of a new lead on the location of the remaining Chevaliers, setting their next destination.

Grant, the Secretary of Defense, abandons Van Argeno and escapes, leaving Van to face the chiropterans alone. On the opera stage, Saya tells Diva she must kill her to protect humans, but Diva counters that Saya was the only one treated as a human. Diva returns to her original form as the two argue over chiropteran existence. Backstage, Amshel taunts Hagi about his parents selling him for bread, but Hagi expresses gratitude because that suffering led him to meet Saya. Both chevaliers transform and fight, blasting through the roof and across New York City. Hagi impales Amshel on the spire of the Chrysler Building, and a lightning strike electrocutes Diva's chevalier. Lewis acts as a decoy outside the opera house to draw chiropterans away from David and Kai, with Lulu saving him from an attack. Saya and Diva load their swords with blood and charge at each other, both landing fatal blows. Saya heals from her wound, but Diva begins crystallizing and shattering as Saya cries and tries helplessly to save her. Nathan brings Diva's twin babies to her, and Diva touches them one last time before imagining herself playing with them as she dies. Nathan explains that Diva's blood lost its potency when she became pregnant, then asks Saya to kill him since he has no purpose without Diva, and Saya complies. Saya tells Kai she must die after killing Diva's babies, raises her bloodied sword, and prepares to end both their lives and her own.
