"Jujutsu Kaisen" is set in a world where cursed energy, derived from negative emotions, manifests as dangerous entities known as curses. These curses wreak havoc on humanity, and only jujutsu sorcerers possess the ability to combat them. The story centers on Yuji Itadori, a high school student with exceptional physical abilities but no prior knowledge of curses. When Yuji encounters a cursed object—a rotting finger belonging to the powerful curse Ryomen Sukuna—he inadvertently becomes its host after swallowing it to protect his friends. This act binds Sukuna, a legendary and malevolent curse, to Yuji's body, granting him immense power but also making him a target for both curses and jujutsu sorcerers.

Initially sentenced to execution due to the threat Sukuna poses, Yuji is given a temporary reprieve by Satoru Gojo, one of the strongest jujutsu sorcerers. Gojo believes Yuji can control Sukuna and proposes a plan to gather all of Sukuna's fingers, which are scattered across the world, to eliminate the curse permanently. Yuji enrolls at Tokyo Jujutsu High, a school for sorcerers, where he trains alongside fellow students Megumi Fushiguro, a reserved and skilled summoner of shikigami, and Nobara Kugisaki, a confident and headstrong fighter who wields a hammer and nails infused with cursed energy. Together, they undertake missions to exorcise curses and recover Sukuna's fingers.
